Traditionally Lebanese Lebanese Sfeeha (Sfihas) or what is also known as “Sfihas” small pies can be considered as a traditional side dish or appetizer; it is usually made with ground lamb meat.
Lebanese Sfeeha (Sfiha)
Sfeeha (Sfihas), or what some people prefer to call it as lahm baajin is a delicious and nutritious dish at the same time that doesn’t need so much time to prepare it.
Ingredients
Ingredients for the dough:
- 1 large egg
- 3 1/2 cups of flour
- 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon of sugar dissolved into a cup of warm water
- 1 tablespoon of instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon of salt
Ingredients for the filling:
- 1 pound of ground meat lamb or beef
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon red spicy chili paste
- 2 piece Finely chopped medium onions
- 1/2 teaspoon of seven spices
- 1/4 cup of pine nuts
- 1 small teaspoon of salt
Instructions
- Mix the eggs with the flour, the vegetable oil, the instant yeast and the salt in a large mixing bowl
- Add in the water to your ingredients and knead very well until you get soft dough
- Cover your dough with a clean plastic wrap and let the dough rest for about 20 minutes to rise in a warm place
- In the meantime, prepare the filling and to do that; mix the ground meat with the chopped tomatoes, the chili paste, the finely chopped onions, the seven spice, the salt and the pine nuts and mix very well with a wooden spoon or with your hand
- Cut the dough into circles; then place the same amount of the filling in the center of each of the circles
- Close each of the ends of the circles tightly; then arrange the stuffed circles in a greased baking tray
- Bake into the oven at a high temperature for about 10 to 15 minutes
- Remove from the oven; then serve and enjoy your dish!
